Realistic and Easy Beach Theme Tumbler

As the weather is warming up here in the US- summer is right around the corner. And I don’t know about you, but summer time means beach time! Now unfortunately we can’t live at the beach every day but we sure can make a cute beach themed glitter tumbler to give us all the chill, relaxed and fun beach vibes. Are you ready to make your own custom beach tumbler? Whether you’re looking for a fun DIY craft project or a unique gift for a beach lover, this blog post will walk you through the step-by-step process of making a beautiful beach epoxy free tumbler.

DIY Beach Themed Tumbler How-To

To get started, you’ll need a 20 ounce skinny straight tumbler from Craft Haven, glitter and paint set, a decal of your choice, and a few other supplies.

The first step is to mix up the base paints. As I am allergic to epoxy like many of you also, I use CrystaLac products because they are non-toxic. I’m starting with Universal Light and using the CrystaLac pigments to make a tan and blue color. I prepped and base coated the tumbler with Universal Gray to get full coverage with the paints. I used a blush brush from the Dollar Tree to apply the paints, starting with the tan color.

Once I had the base color down, I added the glitters. I used four different glitters from my website: three bluish green colors and a gold glitter  to give the look of a beautiful beach scene. To apply the glitter, I used CrystaLac’s Brite Tone. I started with the gold and worked my way up the cup. I used the tilt method to get the glitter to fade into each other.

If you are starting to create custom DIY glitter tumblers, you might be wondering, if you need to buy #allthethings because it can sure feel that way! But don’t fall into that trap. I’ve created a freebie just for you.

Once the glitter had set, I used a dry brush to get off any excess glitter and then sealed it with glitter glue. I then applied several coats of CrystaLac’s Grand Finale and sanded my tumbler until I had a smooth surface.

Creating Easy and Realistic Beach Waves

To make the waves, I started with a coat of Grand Finale and then mixed together the white CrystaLac ink with the Grand Finale. I used a popsicle stick to apply the inks to the cup and then used a straw to blow out the ink to get the movement I wanted. To get a softer look, I used a few drops of the blending solution that comes with the inks.

Once the waves had dried, I added the vinyl decal to my tumbler. I used a SVG from Lettered by Stephanie that said “Leave me at the beach”. I cut the decal in both silver and white and applied the silver on the inside and the white on the outside. I then applied several coats of Grand Finale and sanded until I had a smooth surface.

And that’s it! Your beach tumbler is now ready to use. For a full demo of this process, make sure to check out the video linked below. Happy crafting!
